Treatment of seronegative spondylarthritis with levamisole: a double-blind placebo-controlled study

In a randomized double-blind study, levamisole was shown to be more effective than
placebo in 21 patients with seronegative spondylarthritis (17 with chronic Reiter's disease
and four with ankylosing spondylitis). Eighteen of the patients were HLA-B27 positive. There
was a significant reduction in the number of involved joints, erythrocyte sedimentation rates
and serum fibrinogen levels. The patients' own appreciation of their condition was
