BACKGROUND: Colonization of the skin by Staphylococcus aureus in individuals with
atopic dermatitis exacerbates inflammation. Atopic dermatitis is associated with loss-of-
function mutations in the filaggrin (FLG) gene, accompanied by reduced levels of filaggrin
