BACKGROUND: Bacterial infection with Staphylococcus aureus is a known trigger for
worsening of atopic dermatitis (AD); the exact mechanisms by which bacterial infection
worsens dermatitis are unknown. OBJECTIVE: We sought to characterize the amounts of the
