In 1962, Browne and Hogerzeil1 first reported on the efficacy of® Lamprene (B 663, G
30,320, clofazimine) in leprosy patients in Nigeria. At present, Lamprene is one of the
extensively used antileprosy drugs; it is effective in the prevention2-4 and treatment of lepra
(ENL) reactions5 and is also useful for the treatment of dapsone-resistant leprosy cases3, 6,
7. To date, Lamprene is the only major antileprosy drug which displays an anti-infiammatory
effect and to which resistant strains of leprosy bacilli have not been reported.
