Methods Ten normotensive nonpregnant women from the gynecologic wards were used for
comparison with seven normotensive pregnant women (30 to 40 weeks' gestation). All
women were-in the childbearing age, afebrile, and free of recognized cardiovascular-renal
disease. The women were given intramuscular injections of 300 mg. of sodium
