Introduction It has been recently been suggested that long-term systemic steroids can
produce a small elevation of intraocular pressure and a decrease in facility of outflow. 1 The
actual appearance of an overt glaucoma in patients on long-term systemic steroid therapy
has previously been reported by Stern, 2 Covell, 3 and Harris. 4 In all five of these patients
the intraocular pressure remained elevated despite discontinuation of the steroids and
