Intermediate filament associated proteins (IFAPs) coordinate interactions between
intermediate filaments (IFs) and other cytoskeletal elements and organelles, including
membrane-associated junctions such as desmosomes and hemidesmosomes in epithelial
cells, costameres in striated muscle, and intercalated discs in cardiac muscle. IFAPs thus
