The development of the retinal receptor outer segment was studied in the tadpole eye,
where a good preservation of the cell structures, as well as the relationship between the
receptor cells and the pigment epithebium, could be obtained. In the tip of the connecting
structure, which had developed from one of the inner segment centrioles, the plasma
