To the Editor.—Kappas et al1 have reported the results of Sn-protoporphyrin use in the
management of hyperbilirubinemia in full-term newborns with direct Coombs-positive ABO
incompatibility. A commentary," A New Era in Therapy for Hyperbilirubinemia," 2
emphasizes the great interest of this pharmacologic means of prevention of neonatal
hyperbilirubinemia (inhibition of the transformation of heme into bilirubin) by the action of Sn-
